Client Testimonials

Immediately after an injury, such as a sprain or strain, or following surgery for a more severe injury, such as a torn knee ligament, physical therapy is extremely important.

The most common types of sports injuries are:

  • Sprains

  • Strains

  • Contusions

  • Knee Injuries

  • Achilles Tendon Injuries

  • Fractures

  • Dislocations

  • Shoulder Injuries

Columbia Rehabilitation Clinic's sports medicine program includes exercises and modalities to allow the athlete to return back to competition as soon as possible but only after the therapist has completely evaluated the athlete for a safe return to their specific sporting activity.

Are knee injuries, especially tears of the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL), becoming more common in female athletes?

Studies comparing male to female susceptibility to injury of ACL have shown women have a considerably higher rate of injury. Factors such as techniques and skill of the player, improper shoe wear, and the playing surface contribute to injury rates. Strength training for women is critical with an emphasis on being in shape before they play their sport. Women are generally more flexible then men, but a program of strengthening and stretching is essential for all athletes involved in sports. Balance and agility training may enhance proprioceptive function and also reduce the rate of injury.
