Columbia Rehabilitation Clinic's Pelvic Floor Rehabilitation Program is designed to address a variety of symptoms that can be caused by dysfunction in the pelvic floor muscles in both men and women. These include: urinary and fecal incontinence or urgency, chronic constipation, pelvic or abdominal pain, and chronic prostatitis. A pelvic floor evaluation includes examination of the back, hips and core as well as specific testing of the tone and strength of the pelvic floor muscles using manual and biofeedback techniques. Based on a thorough history and examination, a pelvic floor therapist will design a personalized treatment plan including a home exercise program, modalities, and manual techniques to specifically treat your symptoms. If you are experiencing pain with intercourse, lower abdominal or back pain, pelvic pain, bowel or bladder incontinence or dysfunction, or pregnancy-related discomfort, a pelvic floor therapist may be able to help.

About Our Pelvic Floor Therapist: Alison Valdepenas is a graduate of Duke University School of Medicine's Doctor of Physical Therapy Program. She completed continuing education on evaluation and treatment of the pelvic floor as well as an internship at Duke University Medical Center in pelvic floor rehabilitation. She has been treating pelvic floor dysfunction for 15 years in both men and women, is a Certified Pelvic Rehabilitation Practitioner, a certified lymphedema therapist and certified dry needler.

Talk to your doctor if you think you may benefit from pelvic floor physical therapy. If you have questions about our program you may also call Alison at CRC's West Columbia location.
